Berkeley Tenants Sue Pro-Tenant City Leader After Being Deprived Of their Housing
The former tenants of Dr. Rash B. Ghosh, along with himself, were evicted from 2507-09 McGee Ave and 1700 Dwight Way Berkeley CA, along with the non-profit international institution of Bengal and Himalayan Basins, and a non-denomination temple activity center without any notice or court order. The raids were conducted under false and non-existing safety and zoning violation allegations in August and September of 2007, March of 2009, and October of 2010, among other dates.
One of the most notable raids, among the many, is the raid which took place on the 27th of October, 2010. The section 8 tenant, approved by the Berkeley Housing Authority (US HUD), was a single African-American mother with five children who moved in after the cities approval of the repair work done to 2507 McGee Ave. Unfortunately, after only two weeks, the mother and her children were forcefully removed from the property due to false safety and zoning violation allegations by the city of Berkeley with the support of Berkeley Police, with no action from the US HUD. Afterwards, the property was seized and sold. Meanwhile, there was a balcony collapse at 2020 Kittredge St Berkeley, CA, in which six young UC Berkeley students died on the 16th of June, 2015, yet all other residents were able to remain at the property with no regards to any safety violation allegations from the city given that the property is owned by a big developer and friend of Berkeley City Mayor.
For years, I, Dr.Rash B. Ghosh, have been fighting against the mistreatment and unwarranted eviction of my previous tenants after the city unreasonably seized my property which effectively placed families without a home. Below, are examples and records of the corruption and wrongdoings at the hands of Berkeley, one of the most socially liberal cities in the United States.
